Winter Wonder….is coming to town!

Being in Africa, host to the Sahara and edged by the Mediterranean sea it is often assumed (by those without an Algerian connection of some sort) that the weather in Algeria is always warm. Even with my connection, I was totally surprised when my husband told me that Algeria is an excellent place to ski!

So, despite giving the impression of constant sunshine it can get extremely cold, not everywhere sees snow but it has been known to snow even in the capital and even without the white stuff, temperatures do drop pretty low, especially at night.

In the winter time requests for help always go up. Cool temperatures demand that warmer or more clothing be worn and that one is wrapped up when sleeping to keep out the cold. This year an unprecedented amount of people are wanting assistance and numbers will only increase as it becomes colder….

So, to ensure that we can help all those that need it we have hurriedly put together a fundraiser in the form of a 3 day online shopping and giveaway event which will be on next weekend (19th/20th/21st December)! A number of corporate supporters have donated items for us to sell and auction at greatly reduced prices, all money raised will go towards keeping those in need warm this winter.

But, this event is about more than just raising funds, it’s also an ideal opportunity for us to give away a few special “end of year” treats to say thank you for your continued support (no, we don’t have to do this but, it is nice to show appreciation). As I have said many times before, Algerian Action only exists because of people pulling together and making small, individual gestures build up to big differences to those in need. Thank you for your efforts.
