Just wanted to say a big thank you to of all of those that participated in the Winter Wonder event at the weekend. It was very much a last minute thing to help raise some extra funds for the increasing number of families that are needing help. But, thanks to your efforts of sharing, liking and giving it was possible to raise a total of £310 through auction sales and one off donations because of the interest the event generated.
A special thanks to the small businesses that donated items to the Auction too. (Links of these can be found in the sidebar).
The money will be used to buy additional supplies of blankets and other items to help those in need keep warm this winter.(Pictures to follow shortly).
Have a great week everyone!

Handicrafts are popular in Algeria and several people are able to earn an income by producing beautiful pottery, furniture, glassware, tiles, pictures, handbags, carpets, clothing and many other types of items.
Hand crafted jewellery has been being created in Algeria for hundreds of years and every region has traditional styles that make use of locally sourced stones and findings that are fashioned into beautiful, hard-wearing pieces. My Mother in law gave me a brooch which had been passed down to her from her grandmother, it is years old but, even today the enamel and coral is still so vibrant-I love it!
As part of our Winter Wonder event which starts tomorrow and finishes on Sunday we will be giving away one beautiful Algerian necklace that has been handcrafted from silver and studded with Mediterranean coral.Don’t miss it!
Being in Africa, host to the Sahara and edged by the Mediterranean sea it is often assumed (by those without an Algerian connection of some sort) that the weather in Algeria is always warm. Even with my connection, I was totally surprised when my husband told me that Algeria is an excellent place to ski!
So, despite giving the impression of constant sunshine it can get extremely cold, not everywhere sees snow but it has been known to snow even in the capital and even without the white stuff, temperatures do drop pretty low, especially at night.

In the winter time requests for help always go up. Cool temperatures demand that warmer or more clothing be worn and that one is wrapped up when sleeping to keep out the cold. This year an unprecedented amount of people are wanting assistance and numbers will only increase as it becomes colder….
So, to ensure that we can help all those that need it we have hurriedly put together a fundraiser in the form of a 3 day online shopping and giveaway event which will be on next weekend (19th/20th/21st December)! A number of corporate supporters have donated items for us to sell and auction at greatly reduced prices, all money raised will go towards keeping those in need warm this winter.
Just one of the gorgeous things up for grabs next weekend!
But, this event is about more than just raising funds, it’s also an ideal opportunity for us to give away a few special “end of year” treats to say thank you for your continued support (no, we don’t have to do this but, it is nice to show appreciation). As I have said many times before, Algerian Action only exists because of people pulling together and making small, individual gestures build up to big differences to those in need. Thank you for your efforts.
Please do share the event poster with all that you know and help us make the event a real success! (and if you just happen to be a business owner and would like to donate an item, it’s not too late, just email the details to : email@example.com )
Have a great week!
June has been a very busy month, for me personally and for Algerian Action.
Lots of things were donated which is just wonderful! every single item given makes a difference to somebody in need so it really is lovely to see so many people giving generously and making the lives of others that little bit easier. All types of things have been sent in, below is just a small sample.
We have also been collecting for our Eid Appeal. If you would like to contribute to this by donating sweets, balloons, small toys the items must be received in the UK by the 7th July at the very latest. Our last shipment before Eid will be on the 9th of July so really there is just about a week left to help.
Like last year we will also be providing food parcels to those in need for the month of Ramadan, we held an auction last weekend on Facebook to help fundraise for this so huge thanks to all of you who participated and made it such a worthwhile event.
We will be holding another one at the beginning of August to help us buy more wheelchairs for children in the Mustapha Pascha hospital in Algiers. The children’s cancer unit didn’t have any wheelchairs to transport the children from the ward to the chemotherapy treatment area so last month we bought them two but, we hope to get them another three.
If you are a business owner, crafter or just have something lying around at home that you don’t need please get in touch – we would love to have your support for our August auction.
Have a great weekend everyone!
