Thank you so much to all of you who have been sending beautiful blankets in! They will all make great additions to our baby packs and will be appreciated so much by our new mum’s to be. Huge thanks for the beautiful clothing too! Below are just a few pictures: a sample but, everything donated is very gratefully received.Thank you!
We have been very busy this last few weeks making preparations for our Winter appeal. As always, during the coldest months we will be giving blankets and warm clothing to those most in need. If you are in the UK and wish to donate clothing or other items we need to receive your donations by the end of November to ensure that they reach Algiers in time for when they are needed most. No donation is ever too small….a pair of gloves, a hat or a pair of socks makes the world of difference to someone who is cold with no way of getting warm.
Right now I am busy stitching squares together to make multi coloured wearable blankets! I hope you too have a fun, craft filled October planned!
Lots of fabulous things have arrived over the past week. Including beautiful blankets for the baby pack project, as a knitter that gets bored easily I know how tedious blanket knitting can be so these are extra appreciated and as our supply of blankets is running low they are really needed at the moment. The super snuggly pink fleece ones are just lovely too.
Lots of clothing and toys have also been donated.
We are busy collecting warm winter clothing for needy children at the moment. Thanks to your generosity we have already parcelled up 410 items of warm winter clothing which will be shipped over this week. We are still collecting and are urgently in need of jackets, coats, jumpers ect in all sizes but things are especially needed for children aged 4- 8 years . The next shipment will leave on 22nd December so if you can help in any way please do so a.s.a.p.
As always, thank you so much for your generosity and support!
Have a great week

May was a really busy month for ‘Algerian Action’ with lots of things going on, including work on some exciting future projects.
Yet again lots of beautiful things continued to be sent in by our lovely supporters- some fab summer clothing, toiletries, toys and treats were all in among the bundles of donations that were received.
People are always getting in touch, asking what to send. Children aged 0-16 years are given help with clothing so anything really that will fit that age group will be useful. Glasses and toiletries are always in demand and at the moment there is a shortage of baby clothing for our baby bags. I have just up-dated the ‘most wanted’ list please do take a look if you would like a complete list of what is needed.
This years ‘Eid Appeal’ has just been launched, for full details visit here. This annual appeal is now in it’s third year, each year the number of children given gifts grows , our target for 2012 is 750. We need donations of sweets, balloons, small toys (yo-yo’s, matchbox size cars ect) if you would like to help with this items must be received by 6th July to ensure that they will be in Algeria on time
We also have the online Craft Auction coming up later this week and we will be attending a few fundraising events at the end of the month ……..have a jubilant June everyone whatever you get up to!
So, an update on our newest project.
It is really wonderful to see that so many of you have decided to contribute. Beautiful things have been donated and your kindness has really surpassed all my expectations.
The Eid gift bag project has only been running a few weeks and already we have 17 completed bags, there’s still a way to go but it is so encouraging. With lots of cute hair things donated and some that I bought myself I’ve made up 19 hair accessories packs each containing a selection of clips, bobbles and headbands. These can go inside the bigger gift bags. I’m in the process of making up some craft / stationery sets with the pens, pencils etc that have been donated, I just need to get some notebooks and paper to go inside and they will be done, there are 20 of these.
Lots of help is still needed with this project. Whilst it is fabulous when people donate a complete gift bag full of things, this isn’t necessary. Every single item helps, a pencil, a packet of felt pens, a few balloons it will all go towards making a special day really memorable.
For those that can sew it would be fantastically helpful if you could make a few bags. Nothing fancy, just a little drawstring number about the size of an A4 sheet of paper. If you don’t have something to use for the drawstring just send it ‘as is’ because I have loads of ribbon that can be used.
At the moment things for all age groups are needed, particularly items suitable for both girls and boys aged 2/3 years and 7/8.
Oh, and if any one has any patterns or links to short-sleeved cardigans, boleros and the like please share!
As always thank you all so much for your unending generosity!
Have a great weekend, Emma x
Well, you have done it again, this week was another fantastic week for donations! The next shipment of donations will be sent around mid February so these things will very soon be keeping babies and children lovely and warm.
Take a look-
Gorgeous lemon and white baby cardigans and a hat were donated by Susan. I love the cute duck buttons!
The Marlow knit and chat group sent in a parcel of colourful squares, hats and a fabulous pair of hand warmers which I took the liberty of modelling just so that they can be appreciated properly.
A wonderful collection of hats and some cardigans were donated by Margaret. I thing the zip up waist coat is a great idea!
Gorgeous cardigans from Alice and her 86-year-old Aunt. It;s particularly nice to get cardigans for baby boys as our supply is quite low at the moment.
A snuggly blanket and two knitted squares were sent in by an anonymous donor.
Beautiful crochet blankets, hats, scarves and a hooded top were sent in by another anonymous donor.
Lastly, lovely short-sleeved tops from Celia
Yet another week filled with gorgeous handiwork. Thank you so much to all who contributed.
